Go Deep Sea Fishing and Explore Unit Fractions

This fun and engaging interactive activity has been created by a teacher and includes a variety of different questions to really get your students thinking about unit fractions. Not only will they have to identify different unit fractions by looking at a shaded shape, they’ll also need to work out the unit fraction based on its location on a number line and work out a unit fraction based on a word problem. This means students are having to use their critical thinking skills to determine the correct response to each of the questions in this set of interactive clip cards.

Here are some of the unit fraction word problems included in this resource:

• Shani cut her pie into 5 pieces. What fraction represents 1 piece of the pie?
• Ezrah has a bar of chocolate that can be broken into 8 equal pieces. What fraction represents 1 piece of the chocolate bar?
• Look at the fractions to the right. Which one shows a unit fraction? 

Incorporating Interactive Activities in the Classroom

This interactive set of slides is a fantastic way to engage students in reviewing their knowledge of unit fractions. Interactive activities like this are a versatile resource to use in the classroom and apart from the obvious way of students completing this individually, this can also be done in pairs, or even used as a math warm up activity at the start of a lesson. Teachers can project this set of interactive task cards onto the whiteboard and talk through the possible answers for each question.
